Overview
Vicarious Surgical's system is a radical rethink of robotic minimally invasive surgery. Where traditional robotic systems require 4â5 ports and a large cart at the bedside, the Vicarious platform delivers two fully-articulating, human-like robotic arms through a single 1.5 cm incision, accompanied by a 360° stereoscopic camera that gives the surgeon an immersive "inside the patient" perspective.
The surgeon operates from a remote console wearing a VR headset, with hand controllers translating natural wrist and elbow movements to the miniaturized arms inside the abdomen. This human-scale motion mapping eliminates the learning curve associated with counterintuitive laparoscopic instrument controls.
Currently under De Novo FDA review, Vicarious represents one of the most architecturally distinct surgical robot platforms to reach regulatory submission â a true single-port, VR-native system.
Key Technology
đšī¸
VR Surgical Console
Surgeon wears a VR headset for full 3D immersive visualization inside the patient. Hand controllers capture natural human motion at 1000 Hz.
đĻž
Human-Like Miniature Arms
Two robotic arms with shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints mimic human anatomy, enabling intuitive operation without the counterintuitive fulcrum effect of conventional laparoscopy.
đ
Single 1.5 cm Port
Both arms and the 3D camera deploy through a single small incision, reducing abdominal wall trauma and enabling faster patient recovery vs. multi-port approaches.
đˇ
360° Stereoscopic Vision
Wide-angle 3D camera provides full-sphere visualization of the abdominal cavity â a perspective impossible with fixed-direction laparoscopic scopes.

Competitive Position
Differentiator
True Single-Port Architecture
Only surgical robot system that operates entirely through one small incision while providing two fully-functional robotic arms â vs. Intuitive's SP system which still requires larger cannula diameter.
Differentiator
VR-Native Interface
First surgical robot designed from the ground up for VR headset operation. Competitors (da Vinci, Hugo) use traditional screen-based consoles â Vicarious targets the next-gen surgeon cohort.
